“Up there in the immensity of the Cosmos, an inescapable perception awaits us. National boundaries are not evident when we view the Earth from space. Fanatical ethnic, religious or national chauvinisms are a little difficult to maintain when we see our planet as a fragile blue crescent fading to become an inconspicuous point of light against the bastion and citadel of the stars.”—Carl Sagan (via seandanaher)
Physicists said Monday that they had whacked a tiny region of space with enough energy to briefly distort the laws of physics, providing the first laboratory demonstration of the kind of process that scientists suspect has shaped cosmic history.
What happens to weather balloons when they leave earths atmosphere? i can understand they burst but what happens to the debris and where does it go
Weather ballons don’t really get high enough to leave the atmosphere. The change in surrounding air pressure will make the balloon expand until it bursts. The instruments on the balloon collect data until it pops, at which point the instruments are often lost. Some balloons will have a parachute and a GPS to track and recover the instrumentation.
